Before a pumpkin ever reaches your porch, it grew somewhere. For us, that somewhere is always Western North Carolina. We don't buy from a national wholesaler and truck pumpkins in from three states away. Every display starts at a local farm in the mountains around Asheville.

What "Local" Actually Means Here

Western North Carolina's mix of elevation, cool nights, and rich mountain soil produces pumpkins with real color and texture, the kind that photograph well on a porch and hold up through weeks of fall weather. Farmers here have been growing fall crops in these valleys for generations, and buying from them keeps that work viable instead of getting undercut by big-box pumpkins shipped in from out of state.

Why This Matters More Than It Sounds Like It Should

It's easy for "locally sourced" to become a phrase businesses say without meaning much. For us it's closer to the opposite of a marketing line: it's the actual supply chain. When a farm has a good year, our specialty and white cotton candy pumpkins are more available. When a farm has a rough one, we feel that too. Buying local isn't a bonus feature we added to the packages, it's the reason the packages look the way they do.

Practically, local sourcing shows up in small ways you'll notice: pumpkins with real weight and firm stems instead of the soft, over-handled ones that have traveled cross-country, color variation between pumpkins in the same package instead of uniform factory orange, and availability that shifts slightly through the season as different varieties come ready. If a specific variety is out for a week, it's usually because the farm we buy from is between harvests, not because we ran out of interest in getting it right.
